Left: 'Una Corda' This pedal is used on a grand piano to soften the sound of the piano. The way this works is when the pedal is pressed all the keys are shifted to the right moving the hammers across so where as before they would hit across all three strings. This gives a lighter and softer sound.
Middle/Sostento: This pedal when played doesn't dampen the strings that you have played simultaneously to pressing the pedal. This means that you are free to play the rest of the keys without them being sustain.
Right/Sustain: This pedal sustains the notes across the whole piano. When you play a note it would normally be dampened. This pedal lifts all the dampeners and lets all the strings ring together.
MIDI
Midi data is binary code that is triggered every time you press a key on a midi controller or any kind of electrical piano or synthesiser. Even electric drums use this method.
The amount of things that midi can control is very high and depends on the amount of samples that were created when the product was being made weather that be a physical electric piano or software.
