I went to see the 'Arctic Monkeys' at Finsbury Park on 24th May 2014. This was an outdoor rock gig performed to 60,000 people over 2 nights. The Arctic Monkeys were supported by Royal Blood, Tame Impala and Miles Kane. It was a one off gig played on Friday 23rd May and Saturday 24th May. The show was promoted by SJM Productions which are a large promotion company who put on a wide range of events.
The gig lasted around 7 hours hosting 4 acts. The gates opened at 16:00 and the acts were on at the following times:
Arctic Monkeys 21:00 - 22:30
Tame Impala 19:45 - 20:30
Miles Kane 18:30 - 19:15
Royal Blood 17:30 - 18:00
They played on a large portable festival stage designed for temporary use. Standard ticket prices were £55.00. As there was no variation in tickets, everyone was standing.
There was a large range of staff involved, including: stewards, security and merch sellers. There were a lot more people involved in the production of the event such as, Stage hands and 4 front of house engineers (each band hand there own as well as monitor engineer and lighting engineer). As well as several techs for all the band members who were placing equipment, tuning drums and guitars and generally getting everything ready for the acts.
I am sure there were a lot more people involved behind the scenes, but from an audiences perspective, this is all there was.

Over the weekend of the 28th - 31st I went to 'The End of The Road' music festival. Here I saw 'Gene Clark No Other Band'. This festival is an annual festival occurring in late August, early September. The event was promoted by The End of the Road festival. The event was over a weekend but this particular act performed on Friday 28th at 21:00 - 22:00. They played a 1 hour set including the entire 'No Other' album. The event was held at Larmer Tree Gardens in Dorset. The prices to this event were.

There were a number of staff around. There was a FoH Engineer, Monitor engineer and Lighting Engineer for each stage. There were also several back stage crew members helping set up each band back stage before they went on stage to perform.

I have been listening to some new bands in the more folk and folk/rock genre. The first band are called Frighted Rabbit, especially their album 'The Midnight Organ Fight'. The music is a very original style combining a folky and country sound with a rock sound as well which I love. The way each track builds with very simple rhythms played by the drummer, not always a full beat. It's very common that he will use the sounds of each drum or cymbal to create the rhythm.On a more technical side I think that the production has been quite clever in ways which think outside the box a little. For example in 'The Modern Leper (Track 1)' When the kick drum comes in it sounds like it was recorded with a snare drum in the same room or placed near the microphone. This gives a slight crackle and more live sound o the drums. The texture is a large part of the music which really grabs my attention. On This album and this artist generally they really build up a large texture containing loads on layers but in a very organic way. I think that the sounds of the folky background combined with the rock really makes this album stand out but as well as this there are so many different sounds that come together to create something quite wonderful. I like how none of the instruments are rushed into adding to the song, they all come in very gradually.
The are some signs on sounds design. A big part of this album contains some synths but not always. This moves away slightly from the acoustic sound but really accompanies it very well.
All the songs are written by Frightened Rabbit. The producer of this album is Peter Katis who also engineered and mixed the album.
The mastering was done by Alan Douches.
The album was recorded at Tarquin Studios in Glasgow Scotland.
